Collaboration and Leadership Reflection
With the increased complexity of the healthcare requirements, the pressure on nurses to present collaborative leadership and interpersonal abilities is even greater. Transformational leadership is the leadership style that fits best with my professional requirements. It is also associated with better professional relations, enhanced job satisfaction, and better patient outcomes (Ystaas et al., 2023). Through this approach, I would strive to assist the team in unity, open communication, and the recognition of the contribution of every team member to patient-centered care
Interdisciplinary Collaboration Experience
At arranged meetings, the neurologist presented diagnostic considerations, the occupational therapist presented plans of functional rehabilitation, the pharmacist discussed possible interactions of medications, and I presented information on nursing related to wound-care time management, safety, and pain management. There was respectful and solutions-oriented communication during the process. The team members were very active listeners and took feedback into the common care plan.
The diversity of views created a holistic plan, and I was motivated to present clinical issues and suggestions. The joint decision-making increased the adherence to the needs of the patient and led to the development of a sense of shared responsibility and patient advocacy. The experience was not without challenges, although communication was successful.

However, there was hesitation by some of the junior members in contributing, and follow-up responsibilities were not properly assigned in relation to some of the tasks. This led to the delay of wound dressing schedules and therapy sessions. Also, although the first meeting proved to be successful, the lack of organization in terms of post-meeting coordination led to an uneven implementation. This collaboration could have been enhanced in a number of ways.
Effective vs. Ineffective Leadership
Effective leadership is participatory, empowering, communicative, respectful of common knowledge, and helps in collective responsibility. Conversely, ineffective leadership is top-down, restricts the participation of the team members, and is based on the one-sided decision-making of the higher-ups. The absence of structure and little involvement of certain members in the described collaborative situation were also indicative of poor leadership (Specchia et al., 2021).
Best-Practice Interdisciplinary Collaboration Strategies
Interdisciplinary collaboration based on best practice focuses on communication, joint planning, and implementation. The clarity and reduction of errors and efficient planning of care are enhanced with the help of structured communication tools, including the Situation, Background, NURS FPX 4005 Assessment 1, Recommendation (SBAR) approach (Ghosh et al., 2021). The establishment of psychological safety is also essential because it will give people the feeling to raise questions and concerns without fear of mistakes and enhance team learning (Patil et al., 2023).
