Self-Assessment of Leadership, Collaboration, and Ethics
In this self-assessment, NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 4, I reflect on the areas of my leadership, collaboration, and ethics as they are a part of successful healthcare practice and development as a professional.
Section 1: Leadership and Collaboration Experience
This was aimed at enhancing client satisfaction and communication across departments. The group consisted of the members of the various departments who had their respective knowledge. This demanded good synergy in order to succeed in implementation. I have used a transformational leadership style to motivate the team and inspire them to drive towards the common vision. Kehr et al. (2022) posit that transformational leaders aim at inspiring and motivating followers by addressing the personal values to the team objectives.
In my situation, I made sure that the project met the individual values of team members, like professional development and customer satisfaction. I shared this vision and updated them frequently, and sought feedback to offer transparency and develop buy-in among the team. In the article, Landry (2025) observes that although having team members involved with the decision-making process can help the team to be more engaged, it may slow it down when decisions need to be made as soon as possible. This was done to create a situation in whereby team members were empowered to be in charge of their roles.
Analysis of Leadership Qualities Using a Leadership Model
In addition to this, the necessity to encourage teamwork between the members of various departments shaped my leadership style. Forner et al. (2020) suggest that autonomy and competence should be encouraged by leaders in a team with the aim of enhancing motivation.
Analyzing Leadership and Motivational Techniques Used to Foster Collaboration Among Stakeholders
In my leadership position, I applied a transformational leadership style to develop cooperation among stakeholders.
A study conducted by Reyaz. (2024) shows that motivation improves when the leaders adopt an individual approach to the members of the team to ensure that the team and personal goals are aligned.
Comparing Leadership and Motivational Techniques to Proven Techniques
Comparing my leadership and motivational strategies to the existing models.
Section 2: Ethics Experience
An ethical dilemma that I encountered during the NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 4 course of my practice in a healthcare setting was when a senior nurse requested that I ignore some small differences in documentation in patient records. It was requested that the process of discharge should be hastened and not held back. Despite what seemed to be inconsequential differences, I realized that disregarding them may interfere with the quality of information about a patient and eventually, patient safety. I resolved to disclose the disparities, and this is guided by my obligation to practice ethics.
Analysis of Actions Against the Ethical Framework
I was sure my decision was correct because the framework supported the need to make patient records more accurate rather than focus on discharge expediency.
Alignment of Actions with Ethical Principles
My behavior was based on the ethical concept of beneficence (do good) and non-maleficence (avoid harm). Varkey (2021) states that these principles present healthcare professionals with the necessity to make decisions that do not put the welfare of patients at risk, but instead prevent any actions that can harm patients, even indirectly. In informing the deviations, I acted upon my professional responsibility to safeguard patient safety and ensure that my action was in the best interest of the patient.
NHS FPX 5004 Assessment 4
This is supported by the ANA Code of Ethics, which addresses the issue of the responsibility of the nurse in defending the patients and also in making sure that any actions are under the highest standards supported by ethical qualities. Although it may affect my prospects as a professional, I have decided to do something in accordance with my personal principles of honesty and the safety of patients.
Conclusion
Teamwork is one principle of successful leadership, and I will also eliminate secrecy and mistrust between the stakeholders. The importance of putting patients and their integrity first is supported by my reaction to an ethical dilemma under the influence of professional codes.
